Puppy Love

I grew up with cats. My mother was a cat person. She loved them. There was always at least 2 cats at a time in our household. We had an occasional outside dog but there was never one allowed in the house. Just cats.

When I got married I had a cat. As I had my children we decided they needed a dog. Something to play around with in the yard, be their loyal companion and help to keep a watch on them while they were outside. Along comes Jake. He was a very cute black lab puppy or so we were told and he looked like a lab. He was a sweetheart. At about 6-8 months our sweet dog starting becoming more aggressive to anyone other than myself, my husband and our children. If anyone came to visit we would have to hold the dog back. He would not let them out of their car. This dog was pretty psycho. You would see him on more than one occasion chasing cars down the road. He would even bite their tires as they drove by. Our black lab turned out to be half lab, half chow chow. Unfortunately someone shot Jake. He didn't make it.

A couple of months before the death of Jake my brother gave me a another lab. We named her Chelsea. This dog was kept in the house with my siamese cat Ginger. She was very smart and I spent all the free time I had training her. If I had to leave for any reason she would sit at the window anxiously awaiting my return. I will never forget the day I came home to find she had got into my kids bubble gum and was actually chewing it. She chewed that gum for an hour. It was so funny.

Jake was shot by someone on December 30. Our house caught on fire December 31. Luckily we weren't home. Chelsea and Ginger burned up in that fire. It was a sad day. It's amazing how much you can love an animal.

Then came Abby. New house, new dog. Abby was the best black lab dog EVER! We were able to spend 14 years with her. And there was never a day I didn't regret getting her.

When Abby was 3-4 years old I started bugging my husband about wanting another dog. I wanted a cute little lap dog. A pug. After months of begging he bought me a dog for Christmas. It wasn't a pug. I will never forget when they brought my present in to me and i held him in my lap. Omg he stunk so bad. But he was the most adorable little Boston Terrier puppy I had ever seen. We named him Toby. Toby was a character. He was my little clown. It took a few months for us to realize that Toby was deaf. We didn't care we loved him anyway. What a joy that little dog was. He came into our lives right before my husband was in an automobile wreck and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My husband wasn't able to work for a year. He had two surgeries and that little dog was by his side the whole time. Making us laugh. Toby was only with us for one year. He died 4 hours after having him neutered. It was the first time I had ever seen my husband cry. To this day we still cry over Toby. I feel like he was given to us for that one year to help us with our medical problems and when we was better he had to go. Hopefully he moved on to help someone else. I will never, ever forget that dog.

I wanted a Pug but got a Boston Terrier. Years later I still own Boston terriers. I don't want no Pug or any other dog. I have 3. Claire, Ty and Bo. I love those little buggers but I will never love them like I did Toby. He was one of a kind. Dogs...what would life be without them?

Kids, Life, Middle age and Grandbabies

Everyone around me probably thought I was crazy. What mother in her right mind would jump up and down, clapping her hands and chanting "I'm gonna be a grandma, I'm gonna be a grandma" when learning her 19 year old unmarried daughter was going to have a baby? My co-workers thought I was nuts, my daughter thought I was nuts. I've always know I was nuts but that's another story. I don't think many Mother's would have the same reaction as me.

I was a 42 year old mother of two children. My son, Zachary, was 23 years old, a college graduate and living 5 hours from home. My daughter had graduated from high school and was working. My husband's job keeps him away from home through the week and I guess I was in some middle age funk. I'm not sure what it's called but something just wasn't right. Empty nest syndrome!!!!! Yeah that's it!! I started thinking that maybe I would like to have another baby. I discussed it with my husband and he bought me a dog. I love dogs!! But I love babies to. Hmmm. He bought me another dog and then another dog but I still thought baby....hmmm.
You have 2 perfectly healthy GROWN kids. Do you really want to spend 18 years of your life raising another one? yes, no, yes?

Well I watch Oprah regularly and I know all about the Secret. I've read the book, I've seen the film. I tried to live my life the way the Secret recommends. You know the Secret? Like attracts like. Think of yourself as a magnet. Your thoughts are thrown out into the Universe and what you think you get. To this day my husband blames me for my daughter's pregnancy. He said "see what happened? You threw it out there".

Yeah well maybe I did. I got me a baby and got me one I can give back at the end of the day. What more could you ask for? Zayden was born January 30, 2009 and he is the sweetest, most precious, most loved little man in the world. He is Grandmas boy. I have always heard how special grandchildren could be but I had no idea till my first arrived. Life is good. No life is great!

Follow me around for a while as blog my thoughts on kids, life, middle age and Grand Babies cause they are Grand. Yes they are.
